Integrating into Jiangning District of Nanjing, providing services for Nanjing, and facing the Yangtze River Delta, Bowang District of Ma’anshan strives to create a new zone of Jiangning–Bowang cross-border integrated development.

Established in September 2012, Bowang District lies in the easternmost part of Ma’anshan City, located in Anhui Province, which is within the Yangtze River Delta Economic Circle and the Nanjing One–hour Metropolitan Circle. It shares borders with the Jiangning, Lishui, and Gaochun Districts of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, and is adjacent to both Nanjing Airport New City and Zhetang New City, and is an important gateway for Anhui Province to the developed areas of the Yangtze River Delta, such as Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province and Shanghai. It has jurisdiction over three towns, Bowang, Danyang, and Xinshi, and one provincial high–tech industrial development zone, with a total area of 351 square kilometers and a total population of nearly 200,000.
Bowang District is the development center of innovation–driven and high–tech industry. It has been honored as the National Torch Plan Bowang Shearing and Bending Machine Tool and Blade Molds Characteristic Industrial Base, National Machine Tool Production Quality Supervision Testing Center, National Export Machine Tool and Blade Molds Quality Safety Demonstration Area, National Shearing and Bending Machine Industrial Well–known Brand Establishment Demonstration Area, New Industrialized Industrial Base, and the first batch of Pilot Towns for Smart Clusters in Anhui Province, etc.

Strong Industry
There is a solid industrial foundation in Bowang District. There are more than 1,500 industrial enterprises, 130 of which are above designated size, with an annual output value of 18 billion RMB yuan. Characteristic industries such as machine tools, blade molds, mechanical parts, high–quality castings and forgings are crafted here. Machine tools and blade molds made in Bowang District enjoy a high reputation in the province and the nation.

The leading industrial products in Bowang District include plate shears, bending machines, laser cutting machines, grinding machines, milling machines and supporting blade molds. The shearing and bending machine tools and blade molds industries currently account for 30% and 25% of the national market, respectively.

There are a number of public technical service platforms in Bowang District, such as the National Machine Tool Production Quality Supervision Testing Center, the Provincial Cutting Tool Heat Treatment Center, the Whole Machine Tool Heat Treatment Center, the Carbide Material Research Center, and the 3D Printing Innovation Center, all of which have formed a comprehensive public service platform system covering machine tool product research and development, design and testing, and more.
Development and Inclusivity
Bowang District is now taking the Jiangning–Bowang Cross-border Integrated Development Demonstration Zone as its strategic goal, with its strategic positioning being the Yangtze River Delta Inter–provincial Industry–city Integration and Urbanization Development Demonstration Zone and the Yangtze River Delta Inter–provincial Adjacent Area Social Governance System Innovation Demonstration Zone. It makes the best use of its location, industry, ecology, and late–development advantage and excels at integrating with Nanjing, industrial upgrading, green development, and system and mechanism innovation to reach a new level of high–quality development.
There are one provincial high–tech industrial development zone and three industrial parks in Bowang District. Each has complete infrastructure and convenient transportation, with the achievement of “Five-connection (traffic, electricity, water, communication, drainage) and One-leveling (construction site)”, which will provide investors with enough support.

Beautiful Ecosystem

Bowang District is bordered by the high terrain of Hengshan Mountain in the north and the lowlands of Shijiu Lake in the south. The scenery is beautiful, and the climate is pleasant. Bowang District has a subtropical humid monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. With superior natural conditions and abundant products, it is known as “the land of plenty” and “the land of cutting tools”.
The Hengshan Scenic Area in Bowang District is an AAA national tourist attraction. The main peak, “Sun Palace”, is the highest point in the city, with an altitude of 459 meters; Shijiu Lake is entitled as “An Important Wetland in Asia” with abundant animals, plants and waterfowl resources.
Talents Aggregation
Bowang District strongly adheres to the road of talents invigorating the region and strictly builds the concept of talents first. It has issued the Ten Thousand Technicians Introduction and Education Plan, supported the introduction of foreign talents, and provided high-tech talents and teams with certain production and living conditions and other policy support. Bowang District has brought in Shanghai Jiao Tong University–Ma’anshan Bowang High–end CNC Machine Tool R&D Center, Nanjing Institute of Technology–Ma’anshan CNC Equipment Research Institute, Hefei University of Technology–Ma’anshan Bowang Automation Intelligent Equipment Research Institute. These Industry-University-Research platforms have grown into a comprehensive public service system for machine tool product research and development, design, and testing, etc.
Every year, 15,000 graduates from the six colleges and universities around Bowang District help meet the demand of talent recruitment by the local businesses.

Long Historical Standing
Bowang District has a long and impactful historical heritage, and the three towns of Bowang, Danyang and Xinshi under its jurisdiction are all thousand–year old towns. Danyang was the capital of the state of Wu during the Spring and Autumn Period, and its history can be traced back more than 2,200 years. Previously on this site, the “Shili Changjie” in Xinshi Town was already thriving in the year 1531, and 1,400 years earlier, the town of Bowang as a key town of the iron industry and border trade started to thrive. Historical and cultural treasures are ubiquitous, including the ancient post road in the shape of green stage inkstone (called Qingjieyan) accumulating for over thousands of years, stone carvings at Hengshan Stone Gate, Chengxin ancient temple, Chuandun Mountain ruins, and the legend of Dong Yong and the Seventh Fairy.
