Founded in October 1956, Ma’anshan now has jurisdiction over three counties and three districts with a total area of 4,044 square kilometers and a total population of 2.2 million. Ma’anshan is an industrial city, a port city, a green city, and a civilized city that grew up with P.R.China almost in sync. It is also a city full of vitality and vigour, rich in historical heritage, integrating modern civilization and historical culture.

I. A manufacturing city with a solid foundation

Ma’anshan has been established and developed as a city with steel industry as its dominant industry, The traditional industries are mainly steel, automobiles, electric power and so on. The emerging industries mainly involve high-end equipment, semiconductors, communications and biomedicines. With a solid industrial foundation, Ma’anshan has complete industrial categories and strong supporting capacity.

II. An open city with a superior location

Ma’anshan is located in the two metropolitan circles of Nanjing and Hefei, being taken as the eastern gate and bridgehead of Anhui’s integration into Shanghai, Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province. It has 2 national development parks, 1 national comprehensive bonded zone and 6 provincial development zones. Ma’anshan Port is one of the top 10 ports along the Yangtze River. Zhengpu Port, the only 10,000-ton deep-water port on the north bank of the Yangtze River in Anhui Province, is being built as a hub of river-sea coordinated transport of Anhui Province.

Ma’anshan is the first city awarded as National Civilized City in the central regionand and has maintained the title for six consecutive times. The spirit of the city is “Harmonizing the hills and rivers, taking the lead in development”.
